Modern Miniatures (formerly known as Roy's Toy Ranch) is owned by Kay Pate and is located in the beautiful Piney Woods of East Texas on U.S. Highway 80 east of Longview, Texas.
I have been involved in the "horse business" since graduating from high school when I got my first registered Quarter Horse and began to show. Along the way to the miniatures, I was fortunate to have been very successful with my "big" horses including a World Champion AQHA Halter Horse.
In 1984, my husband, Roy, became interested in the miniature horse when we saw them at a state fair where we had our Quarter Horses. After purchasing a filly and a colt, we called Mr. Moody Bond of Lavonia, GA and that was the beginning of a lovely friendship with the Bond Family. Bond Snippet was my first miniature stallion when he was acquired in early 1985. I owe my success in the Miniature Industry to Bond Snippet and the Bond bloodlines.
Mr. Bond was one of the first breeders of miniature horses in the U.S. in the early 1950's. Due to an association and a special friendship with the Bond's, I have been privileged to own some of the premier bloodlines of the Bond breeding and the foundation of the miniature horse that we see today. The beautiful Bond head with it's large expressive eyes is the "trademark" of the Bond breeding.
